Who Can Join?
At present there are no specific qualifications required to join the auxiliary service. The role of Coastguard Rescue Officer
is often demanding and dangerous; therefore team members must be physically fit, able to reach the Coastguard station from
their home within 30 mins of a call out, and be willing to attend a weekly two hour training session with their unit.
No previous experience is required as training is provided.
New members are initially taken on as trainees, and are not expected to take part in rescue operations. After the required
level of competency is reached the trainee is placed on call and will respond to call outs with other team members.
Applicants should be aware that Coastguard Rescue teams provide emergency cover along with other emergency services on
a 24 hour, 365 day basis.
